“Protect the Environment to Protect Yourself”

The advancements in technology even though making our lives easier and better have degraded the environment in all possible ways to a large extent. The harm is irreversible, so the efforts to help prevent the further damage are utmost necessary.

Pollution of all kinds, air, water and land have reached an alarming level.None of us wants to live with a chronic disease induced due to the various chemicals in our environment, nor do we wish to suffer several diseases on a day to day basis due to them.

To protect ourselves from the threatening consequences of the degradation of environment we need to change our habits and act wisely.

To limit the pollution, we need to understand its causes.Increased release of harmful gases into the air as a result of extensive industrialization across the globe, the release of effluents into the water bodies, and dumping of all sorts of chemical wastes into land, are some of the major causes of environmental degradation. The non-degradable chemicals such as pesticides constitute a large part of the problems.

Using environmental friendly chemicals, biofuels, opting for green energy alternatives, following the principle of three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), limiting the use of detergents and bleaches and lot more can help us reduce the load of chemicals in the environment.

Carbon credits and carbon footprints are a great emerging way of limiting the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Green Chemistry is another such topic that has been gaining traction lately. We should try to use sustainable products and educate others about the same. Some other ways to help in the process of conservation are limiting the use of chemical fertilizers, reducing the use of plastics, using rechargeable batteries, helping plant more trees, conserve energy and water. Try to use unleaded fuel. Recycle the old electronics.
