Safe Drinking Water Act  

In 2002 the Safe Drinking Water Act was passed to protect the drinking water across Ontario. This legislation was passed to protect human health and prevent drinking water health hazards through the control and regulation of drinking water systems and drinking water testing.

Involved in:

​

  • Conducting water research data collection 

  • Developing training and educational programs for safe water drinking 

  • Ensuring training courses for operators of drinking water systems  

  • Providing technical assistance to owners and operators  

  • Providing new information on pathogens, chemicals and other potential water Hazards 

  • Prescribing water quality standards
