The laws and regulations regarding land pollution in Canada are as follows:

  • Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA)

  • Fisheries Act

  • Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA)

  • Species at Risk Act (SARA)

  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992

  • Canada Shipping Act

  • Hazardous Products Act

  • Pest Control Products Act

Every province has its own environmental regulations and acts. Ontario’s has the following regulations and acts:

  • Environmental Bill of Rights

  • Environmental Protection Act (EPA)

  • Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA)

  • Clean Water Act

  • Environmental Assessment Act (EAA)

  • Pesticides Act

  • Safe Drinking Water Act

  • Nutrient Management Act

  • Green Energy Act

  • Toxics Reduction Act

 

Health Impacts

The impacts of land pollutions on health of human beings are as follows:

  • Land pollution can cause exposure to toxic waste and chemical leading to the skin problems.

  • Long term health effect such as chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease and even brain damage can be caused.
