Air Pollution

The Fundamentals

The quality of the air we breathe every day impacts us in ways beyond what most people would think of. Every year, unclean air causes countless health issues, from expected issues like nose and throat irritation to kidney and liver problems! Unclean air can also worsen or reintroduce health problems that were lying dormant. All in all, across the globe, 7 million die prematurely from air quality related issues - making it the biggest environmental health risk.

Relevance to EPHPs

This is relevant to Environmental Public Health Professionals  (EPHP) in two ways. First of all, with environment being the first word of an EPHPs title, EPHPs have to care for, understand, and act on the environment's behalf. Second of all, EPHPs are health professionals. The job of an EPHP is to understand how the environment can impact the health of the people living in that environment. It is extremely important for EPHPs to face the issue of air quality head-on because of the innumerable amounts of disease caused and worsened by air quality issues, along with the amount of premature deaths caused by this issue.
